Yesterday I was EXTREMELY anxious, upset and stressed-out. The husband and I were fighting, I lost my cell phone (again-later found) and the hCG level made me anxious and stressed. So much so, that I began feeling crampy. Although I have yelled at my mother for even suggesting that stress might be a factor contributing to my recurrent miscarriages, I am beginning to wonder. I did some quick research on-line and saw several recent studies that found a connection between stress/anxiety and recurrent miscarriages: How Stress Causes Miscarriage, Stress and Early Miscarriage, Stress 'linked to miscarriages' and Mother's Stress Could Contribute to Early Miscarriage . The amount of stress/anxiety, however, was not noted. Is one episode enough? Does it have to be several? One study mentioned that three weeks is the critical time. My doctor believes I was about 3 1/2 weeks on Tuesday.
What do you think? Do you see a connection? Has your doctor mentioned a connection?

i think stress=m/c=b/s.
No one is more stressed out than the people in Dafur. And they aren't m/c'ing anymore than anyone else.
If stressed caused a m/c there would be no abortion, right? B/c who gets pregnant when they very much don't want to and DOESN'T stress over it?
What pregnant lady doesn't scream at her husband, fight with him, loss things? Uh, yeah, the population would end.
There's a study that says everything.
I mean, yoga, meditating would help, you in general, but unforutnately, 80% of m/c's are genetic in nature. And that is what it is.
BTW, i don't like you blaming my friend, ali, for something that she has ZERO control over.
Now, STEP AWAY from google, and go yell at hubbie and suffer from preggy brain, k?
I used to think stress caused m/c because I was so stressed before my first one. And I blamed myself for causing it.
Then I read the book about Daniel Pearl written by his wife, Marianne. The Pearls lived with a good friend, a woman, who helped spearhead the search for Danny. Marianne & this woman worked for hours, for days & weeks, barely sleeping and eating, trying to locate him while simultaneously supporting each other emotionally. Marianne was 5 months pg at the time and the friend found out she was pg during the search. I can think of no more stressful situation that a Western woman might face - and both of those women delivered healthy sons. So, yeah, what The Oneliner says about b/s is spot on.
Please give yourself a break and a little slack. I hope your dr is giving you a lot of extra attention.
Thinking of you.
I agree with Christina, there is a study for everything. I am sure in those studies, the level of stress has to be incredibly high--not just a few bad days...
My doctor has never addressed the issue of stress, but she put my mind at ease about some other pregnancy no-no's, like lifting something heavy. She said if I was working construction and trying to build a bridge, then it would be a concern, but if I have to carry my suitcase from the subway to the airport or pick up my 40-lb. three-year-old, it will most definitely not cause a miscarriage.
After my m/c, one of the most reassuring things that my dr. told me was "there is nothing you did or didn't do to make this happen." There is nothing you can do to influence the outcome now. So take it easy on yourself. Sure, you are under a lot of stress--understandably--but the fate of this baby is out of your hands. It is a scary thought, I know... I will be thinking of you and hoping for wonderful beta numbers.
