I had my reservations about starting this - somehow the idea of considering a name that people in the blogosphere suggest seems to cheapen the whole idea about naming your kid. I even posted something - and then withdrew it. But I am at a loss. There are several names that we like - and it's important to me that the middle name is a family name or means something fairly significant to us - but the first name? I want something solid that says "Good, upstanding citizen." The problem is - most of the names that I have chosen or we have chosen are a little fancy pants. And that worries me. Also, nothing is speaking to me yet as "his name." Almost, maybe, but I'm still unsure. So, what the hell, hit me with your best shot - if you are willing to give up a favorite boy name, I'm curious to hear it. Or read it. Whatever the case may be. Also, we're desperately trying to steer clear of uber popular, trendy names. So no to Noah (although I love that name) or Mason. One of our top five, happens to be a popular name. But, well . . . we're not perfect.
P.S. - if fancy pants names float your boat - I'm interested in those, too!

Declan. That was going to be my boy name, but a friend of mine used it.
Nicholas.
I like Alexander, too - but it's way too popular.
Hmm - they're both czars - what does that mean?
I like Alexander/Alex, too.
Anthony? Jackson(sort of trendy)? Johnathan? Jack? Daniel? David? Those are traditional and classic.
Ethan? :)
I like the name Mark for a boy. But my brother-in-law stole it, so I can't use it. You can though.
Henry.
Cohen.
Jude.
Those are some of my favourites. I really like Henry, but the Husband wasn't a fan. We liked Austin too, but now we have a little Auden.
Matthew. Matt.
Thomas - Tom
I really like Max -- though it's hard for me not to think of "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" or "Max Headroom"
Funny, my husband favors Otto -- it was his father's name. Yikes -- what does one do with that -- if we ever get pregnant I better have a girl!
Pam
I'm surprised so many commenters have given suggestions! Usually people are so territorial with names.
Lots of good names up there, and like Magpie, I favour the czars too, which is kind of odd.
Had my daughter been a boy she probably would have been Oliver. If I were to have another and it was a boy I'd lean toward Silas, though it would be a hard sell to the husband.
Good luck!
Nathan
Colton
Carter
A few off the top of my head...naming is so stressful!
Griffin (we really considered this as there is a Griffin on our family crest).
Cooper (just don't like that it rhymes w/ pooper)
Max (but JLo had just named her son Max and we were having b/g twins and didn't want people to think of JLo)
Joaquin (my wife loves it, me not so much)
We're considering:
Weston/Wes
Jack
William/Will
Owen
Rory
It's tougher to do this than I thought, tho. As I look at my list, I want to change it already.
I like Garrick -- it means 'warrior'. It's not very common.
Christopher Michael or Glenn Earl. Those would be my choices.
Our boy name is Wyatt.
After Wyatt Earp, a famous Western sheriff. If we were ever to have a son, I would expect him to walk with a bit of a swagger like in the Old West.
Cannot wait to see what you end up naming him.
I don't have a boy, but if I would have one these are what I like Adrian, Paolo, Paulo, Xavier, Maximiliano, Emilio.
I, too, really love Noah, it was on our top five list both times, but it got even more popular over the last couple of years, so I had to let it go. I really like Noam, but it is, perhaps, too unusual, plus I was worried the kid would get confused with Noah. Another 'fancy pants' name that I liked but hubby hated was Orson.
Several of the names already mentioned are among my favorites, but I wanted to add Cole and Lukas/Luke to the list.
